The Idea for a Book
If you have an idea for a book and feel confident about writing it, there’s nothing that can stop you from publishing it. As a copywriter and technical writer, I felt, I should have at least one book against my name. I don’t know why, but I just felt I should. For years I struggled with ideas for this elusive book and made many attempts to write it, without success. After many unsuccessful attempts, I began to think that writing a book was beyond me. Maybe I just didn’t have the specific skill to write one or the patience for it, I thought.
Once I accepted that writing a book was not as easy as it seemed, I gave up the idea of writing one. There was a sense of failure and regret, initially. But I soon overcame it as I felt I had given my best and it was clearly not enough. It wasn’t until I realized that I needed to share my understanding of investments that I again thought about writing a book. This was no “Eureka” moment. It was a slow realization that what I wanted to say could only be said through a book. There was no feeling of euphoria or an excitement about finally knowing what I had to write about. I just felt that I had to do it because there was a need to say it.
The surprising part was that unlike my earlier attempts, this time, I could see the book in its entirety. I knew what the book would be about and whom it would address. Until then, every idea for a book was an idea borne out of a wish to write one – rather than the need to communicate something that I wanted to share with others. That I think is the primary difference.
If you belong to the group of writers who know what they want to say and have this insuppressible urge to share it with others – then you have a great chance of completing your book. The tools are all out there.
I’ll share more of my experiences of writing, self-publishing, marketing and distributing my book in this section. Do write to me if you have any specific query. If I’m able to answer it based on my limited experience, I’d surely do it.
Have a great day!
